| Q. How many
smoke detectors do I need in my home? |
| |
| A. Wisconsin law
requires all homes and other residential buildings to be
protected by smoke |
| detectors. For
one-and two family dwellings, the owner must install at least
one smoke |
| on each floor level
of each unit including the basement and finished attics. They
should be |
| first installed
between sleeping areas then on top of stairs on other levels. |
| |
| New construction
requires smoke detectors to be hard wired, interconnected with
battery |
| backup and installed
in each bedroom and outside each sleeping area. |
| For older homes the
Sheboygan Fire Dept recommends
10 year lithium detectors |
| |
| Q. How do
I get a copy of a Fire or EMS report? |
| |
| A. Please
print and mail in your request. See our
Public Records Request
area. |
| |
| Q. Does
the Fire Department provide training to the public in CPR or
other First Aid training? |
| |
| A.
No. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and other First Aid
training are provided by |
|
organizations such as the American Red Cross and the American
Heart Association. |
| |
| Q. Why
does the Fire Department bring a fire engine or ambulance on a Fire Inspection? |
| |
| A.
The fire engine or ambulance is a firefighter's office away
from the station; it holds the tools |
| required
to handle a wide variety of emergencies. If a needed tool were
not available on the |
| scene of
an emergency, firefighters would need to return to one of
Sheboygan's five fire . |
| stations
prior to taking action. |
| |
| Q.
Does the Sheboygan Fire
Department offer tours or educational programs to schools or |
| groups? |
| |
| A.
Yes. The Sheboygan Fire Dept provides a comprehensive
fire education program to
all |
| public
and private schools in the city of Sheboygan. Fire Station
tours can be scheduled by |
| calling
the main office at 920-459-3327. The front office staff will
connect you to the |
|
appropriate Fire Station. |
