Sheboygan has an extensive
variety of excellent, affordable housing options. That is one of the
things that make it a desirable place in which to live and work.
To help people
with low and moderate incomes make their homes and rental properties
safe and attractive, the City of Sheboygan offers federally funded low
interest loan programs.

Owner-Occupied Loan
Program
Purpose
To help homeowners with low
or moderate incomes finance the maintenance and/or rehabilitation of
their homes; and to expand the supply of adequate, safe housing within
the City of Sheboygan.
Eligible
Improvements
Loan funds may
be used to maintain the home, to correct code violations, or make the
home more energy efficient.
City Participation
The City of Sheboygan will
provide a loan for 100% of the rehabilitation costs, not to exceed
$25,000. The loan term and interest rate will be based on the owner’s
income.

Rental Rehabilitation Loan Program
Purpose
To help owners
of residential rental properties leased by tenants with low or
moderate incomes finance the maintenance and/or rehabilitation of the
rental properties, and to expand the supply of adequate, safe housing
within the City of Sheboygan.
Eligible
Improvements
Loan funds may
be used to maintain the rental property, to correct code violations,
or make the home more energy efficient.
City Participation
The City of Sheboygan will
provide a loan for 75% of the rehabilitation costs not to exceed
$25,000. The loan will be made at a 4% interest rate for a 15-year
term.
If the
borrower obtains a loan from another source for the remaining 25% of
the rehabilitation costs, monthly payments on funds obtained through
the Rental Rehabilitation Program may be deferred until the owner’s
25% is paid to his/her lender or one (1) year for each $1,000 of the
City loan whichever is less (five year maximum.)
